A Good Guy

Thu, 13 Nov 2008 03:43:18 -0800
A Good Guy in: Cardiology, Sad So, today marked the third shift in a row where a patient of mine died. That makes 4 in three shifts. That is more than average. And depressing. Today we got a guy in his 70’s who basically suffered a massive MI (or some sort of arrhythmia) while driving and wrecked his car. Arrived in arrest and there was nothing that multiple shocks, multiple drugs, and a boat-load of compressions could reverse. He was not from nearby so it took some time to locate relatives

Pio Cesare 2003 Barolo Ornato - Nebbiolo Red Wine

Thu, 13 Nov 2008 03:33:27 -0800
Red Wine by Pio Cesare from Piedmont, Italy. Ornato is the name of the estate vineyard owned by the Pio family in Serralunga d’Alba. Ornato is more modern in style than Pio Cesare’s traditional Barolo, but still true to its roots. The characteristics of the soil, the microclimate and favourable exposure, allows the grapes to become extremely rich. Fermentation at a slightly higher temperature, together with skin maceration for 12 days, produces a wine with great soft tannins. The first Barolo

Another example of the fact that Italy is not all about pasta and pizza (see our recipe for eel), the ingredients for four to five p

American Apparel is coming to Rome.

Wed, 12 Nov 2008 22:16:46 -0800
Why, why, why! I was reading Jessica’s excellent Rome Photo blog and horror of horrors I saw this post. They are opening a store in Monti. I guess their practice of only hiring “hot” people will fit in the bel paese. I wonder how their prices will be and who will shop there…locals or tourists? I never shopped at the stores because the Penthouse circa 1970 advertising got on my freaking nerves. To me the store is the retail version of Girls Gone Wild. Top Chef Season 5 Starts Out Strong With A Double Elimination

Wed, 12 Nov 2008 20:33:52 -0800
The obligatory, and usually awkward, meeting of the Top Chef contestants made their way to our TV screens as the Bravo perennial favorite, Top Chef’s opening montage screamed its way into our living rooms once again. The perennial favorite for Bravo, Top Chef takes us into the Big Apple this season, which is a fairly logical choice for aspiring chefs, you would think. As the lovely host, Padma Lakshmi, touted all of the goodies that await the eventual Top Chef, including a $100,000 prize
